What is Eder FassStolz®?
The FassStolz® brand developed about 10 years ago. In our case, the name was determined first. The Barrel series, which developed from it, was then the next step.

Special - everything from one source
What makes the barrels so special? There are several factors that play a central role here.
Basically, everything from tree to barrel is in one hand.
In other words: everything starts with the wood, which is essential for barrel construction. This is exclusively felled and bought regionally. Each log is personally inspected and evaluated before purchase. Step 2 on our way to the barrel is the ripping of the logs in our own sawmill in Bad Dürkheim, where the 24-month wood maturation and the barrel construction in our own cooperage takes place.
Cooper
Seven coopers, 3 of whom we have trained ourselves, ensure that the well sorted wood is turned into premium barrels. An important part of a cooper’s work is also the toasting. This requires tact and experience. With the parameters temperature and time we can achieve that the barrel tastes later on like spices, vanilla, or a marshmallow. One thing is of primary importance here: the taste of the customer. You wish, we toast!
From the tree to the barrel
“From the tree to the barrel” we mean literally: we save long transport routes, we recycle the whole log – thus also the parts that are not suitable for barrel construction. So there is not only a FassStolz® series for beer, wine and distillates, but also a whole range of furniture and decorative objects, both from new wood, for example with a tree-edge, or from used barrels. So the first item that was allowed to bear the name FassStolz® was not a barrel, but a beautiful bench, which was built 100% from parts of a used large barrel. In addition, over the years, great handmade pieces of furniture such as tables, shelves, cabinets, stools, chairs and much more.
Then & Now
The history of the barrels tells itself constantly further. So the first barrels from our own production were still „Stück“ or „Halbstück“ barrels (i.e. 1300 or 600 l), other sizes were added quickly, but also alternative types of wood.
Today you will find in our portfolio barrels from 30 l upwards (the upper limits are only limited by the space available to the customer), which are made of oak wood as well as unusual wood types such as ash, chestnut, mulberry, acacia, walnut, plum, wild cherry, pear or service tree. Our barrels are as varied as the demands placed on them.

Sustainability
The Eder company stands for sustainability. This is reflected not only in the recycling of the entire log, but also in reforestation. In 2019 alone, the Eder family planted around 5,000 new trees.
