Coopering a whiskey barrel in the twilight
Protagonist of the advertisement film
On 07.05.21 we had the professional film team of AirV8 from Rosenheim as guests. The young creatives shot a promotional film on behalf of our business partner – SLYRS – for their liquid gold from the SLYRSee. It was very interesting to experience this event and I am happy to share my impressions and great pictures about warming and bending the staves of a Whiksy barrel in the twilight.
The protagonist of the commercial was my charismatic colleague Hans. He is a trained cooper and lives his profession with heart and soul. Despite his young age, he is a “whole guy” – a cool guy.
The barrel rose
Hans tied the seasoned and joined staves into the first barrel hoops in advance. This structure is called a barrel rose. On a metal plate, Hans lights the oak fire.
As soon as the barrel rose is placed over the oak fire, the process of stave bending begins, which in this case can take a good 2 hours. Hans plays with fire and water. Every now and then he lights the fire with new tinder and waters the wooden structure with water inside and out.
Fire and water
The lower end of the barrel rose is meanwhile clamped in a winch. Here Hans pulls from time to time, so that the interaction of fire, water and time causes these staves to bend without breaking.
Hans turns the barrel and sets the tires on. Finished, the barrel is in its shape after two hours. Now the so called gagel is cut and the barrel marriage takes place ?. This is the expression for inserting the barrel heads into the barrel.
Due to the darkness that helped to create fascinating moments, I let speak here more pictures and look forward to the film of SLYRS.
See you,
