General impressions
The “From Tree to Barrel” seminar was not just a professional event for me, but a unique opportunity to connect with people who share the same passion for our craft. I was particularly pleased to get to know each individual personally and now know the face behind the emails and phone calls.
The exchange among the participants was extremely positive and characterized by an open atmosphere. It was inspiring to see how different industry experts, from coopers to master distillers, shared their knowledge and experiences with each other.
I particularly enjoyed the pleasant, feel-good atmosphere during the seminar. It is always pleasing to see that our efforts and planning in advance not only contribute to informative presentations, but also to a relaxed and informal gathering.
All in all, the seminar was not only an opportunity for me to deepen my knowledge, but also an opportunity to celebrate our shared passion and commitment to our craft.
The evening event
The evening event of the seminar was a real highlight. Not only was the exchange extremely informative, but the laid-back atmosphere also created a relaxed atmosphere and helped everyone feel at ease.
It was impressive to see how much concentrated knowledge was gathered in one room. The diversity of expertise created an inspiring environment.
The event was a “safe space” for everyone. Open conversations, hearty laughter and lots of knowledge – that’s how every networking event should be. All in all, the evening event was not only a successful conclusion to the seminar day, but also a place where information, humor and good craftsmanship come together.
Guided tour through the company
The guided tour at the seminar was really something special! We were given so many different insights in small groups. At the sawmill, we were shown how a tree is cut up and, above all, what needs to be taken into account in order to obtain barrel-quality sections.
In the carpentry workshop, it became clear how diverse the endless possibilities are that a barrel offers to make a real work of art out of it. The variety of designs and ideas was impressive and certainly awakened the creative spirit in some of us.
The cooperage was particularly educational. There, we were shown how to repair leaks and even carry out small operations ourselves. This will certainly help some of us in practice. As you learn better by doing it yourself than by just watching, everyone had the opportunity to look up barrel tires directly in practice, repair leaks and
The visit to the warehouse was not only informative, but also sensual. The “smell bar” literally held the difference between the various barrels up to our noses. We had the choice between new and pre-seasoned barrels. My personal highlight was definitely the Mizunara oak – a scent you won’t soon forget.
Overall, the tour was a great addition to the seminar. The practical insights deepened what we had learned and ensured that we not only took theoretical knowledge home with us, but also tangible experience.
Here’s to a next time!
