Oval Vat 600 L – Halbstück – with Plexiglass Stave

Our oval 600 L vat, also known as a “Halbstück”, combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and innovative design. This high-quality large cask is equipped with a stainless-steel door featuring a tapping hole flap, allowing for convenient handling during the winemaking process.

The vat is crafted from local oak sourced from the Palatinate Forest / Northern Vosges region. We obtain our wood exclusively from certified forestry operations and place great importance on sustainability and the responsible use of this valuable natural resource. The oak for each “Halbstück” is sawn in our own sawmill, air-dried on our premises for over 48 months, and then meticulously handcrafted by our master coopers.

The special highlight of this vat is the central stave in the lid, into which the door is integrated. Made of transparent plexiglass, it offers a unique view into the interior of the cask. Both winemakers and visitors can observe the fermentation and maturation of the wine as it happens – a fascinating feature that perfectly unites technology and aesthetics.
